Kate Willard has been appointed as the new Thames Estuary Envoy

Kate Willard, Director of Partnership Development with Stobart Group, has been appointed as the new Estuary Envoy.  She will chair the new Thames Estuary Growth Board and spearhead central and local government’s ambitious growth plans for the region.

The Thames Estuary has the potential to deliver growth to support the success of the whole of the UK economy. Its scale is comparable to the Midlands Engine, Northern Powerhouse and Oxford-Cambridge Arc. The appointment of an “Envoy” to act as a champion, advocate and leader for the region is critical to achieving this growth.

As a key advocate for the Estuary, Kate will seek to forge positive relationships with local businesses, communities and local authorities, working with the Government to increase prosperity and opportunity for local people. As the Envoy, she will be crucial to the successful delivery of the government’s plans to accelerate “good” growth in North Kent, South Essex and East London.

Welcoming Kate's appointment, TGKP's Chairman, Rob Bennett said:

  • “We are proud our achievements in North Kent in the recent past: progress at Ebbsfleet Garden City, significant housing growth in Dartford and the realisation of ambitious plans in Medway are just three examples. But we want to go further and deliver sustainable growth that benefits all of our communities.
  •  “We welcome Kate’s appointment as Envoy and hope that she can help us to accomplish our ambitious plans to accelerate economic growth, create jobs, improve the environment and attract investment for physical and social infrastructure. North Kent has the potential to play a critical role in the UK’s economic success, with an impact not just on the region but on the rest of the country.”
  • “We are keen to work with Kate and with government to get on with the job.”
