Higher Education

A major step to higher educational standards, international recognition and more graduates for North Kent’s economy, the Universities at Medway campus is now home to the universities of Greenwich, Kent and Canterbury Christ Church which together offer a wide range of courses to over 10,000 students.

The faculties and research specialisms offered at the Medway campus include:

  • University of Greenwich 's Faculty of Engineering & Science, Wolfson Centre (one of only three research centres in the world specialising in bulk solids handling) and Natural Resources Institute.  Click here to find out more about the faculty's research groups.
  • University of Kent's Centre for Journalism, School of Pharmacy, Centre for Professional Practice and Schools of Computing, Music and Fine Arts, Sport and Exercise Sciences and Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research.  Click here for more information.
  • Canterbury Christ Church University's Institute of Medical Sciences (specialising in postgraduate medical education and research), Centre for Career and Personal Development and programmes delivering undergraduate and post-graduate training and research in education/early years, healthcare and social care.  Click here for more information.
  • The Medway School of Pharmacy, a unique collaboration between the universities of Greenwich and Kent offering both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research in pharmacy, pharmacology and physiology.

Medway is also home to the University of Creative Arts at Rochester, one of the leading institutions offering FE and HE education and training in the creative arts, particularly fashion, photography, product design and digital animation.

Further Education and Vocational & Commercial Training

MidKent CollegeAdjacent to the Universities at Medway campus, MidKent College offers Further and Higher Education provision in state of the art buildings opened in 2010, when the college relocated to Chatham Maritime.

North Kent College - Gravesend CampusNorth Kent College offers a wide range of further and higher education and training, with campuses at Dartford and Gravesend.  It includes the National Maritime Training Centre as a leading provider of commercial maritime education and practical training.

The Swale Campus of Canterbury College, in Sheerness on the Isle of Sheppey, offers vocational training and apprenticeships in a range of disciplines. 

SusConNorth Kent is also home to two University Technical Colleges: Leigh UTC at Dartford (opened September 2014), and Waterfront UTC (formerly Medway UTC) in Chatham Maritime (opened in 2015).

In Dartford, SusCon, opened in 2011, is equipped to provide training for the sustainable construction sector and is also currently home to the National Maritime Development Group

An established North Kent icon in the retail sector, Bluewater is also a retail management centre of excellence and its Learning Shop offers on-line learning opportunities to the local community and businesses.
