Ebbsfleet Garden City

In March 2014 the Coalition Government announced its support for a new, 21st Century style Garden City at Ebbsfleet, including the proposal that this could accommodate up to 15,000 homes.  The Ebbsfleet Development Corporation (EDC) has been created to lead delivery of the Garden City.  Its Board is chaired by Michael Cassidy CBE, and Ian Piper is the current Interim Chief Executive.  The EDC came into operation on 20 April 2015 and took over development control functions for its area from 1 July 2015.

The Thames Gateway Kent Partnership has welcomed the Government's commitment to Ebbsfleet, which has consistently been the Partnership's top spatial priority for investment and growth in North Kent.  It remains our ambition that Ebbsfleet should be an exemplar of high quality, sustainable development providing both homes and jobs and acting as a catalyst for growth in the North Kent economy.  We have been pleased to welcome the EDC, represented by Ian Piper, as a Member of the TGKP Board.

The Corporation's own website provides more detail about the Garden City, its vision and implementation framework (masterplan) for the Garden City and the Corporation's activities.  Background papers about the Corporation's terms of reference, geographic boundaries, planning powers and composition of its board can be found hereThe area covered by the Ebbsfleet Development Corporation is illustrated below:

The Garden City area is divided into seven main sites (click here to view an interactive map).  More detail on component sites can be found on our Investment Opportunities page.
