New business funding programme for 2017 - Kent & Medway Business Fund

In 2017 the Kent & Medway Business Fund (KMBF) was launched, administered by Kent County Council.  This scheme, offering interest-free loans or equity of between £50,000 to £500,000 for SMEs looking to grow and create new jobs, is the successor to the previous Regional Growth Funding schemes (Escalate, Expansion East Kent, Marsh Million, Small Business Boost and TIGER - see below), which are now closed to new applicants. All loan repayments from these schemes will be recycled into the new funding scheme.

The fund is open NOW to receive expressions of interest: there will be a call for applications in June followed by further calls during 2017-18.  To sign up for direct notifications of future calls for proposals, and for further information, please visit the KMBF website.

Other funding programmes supporting business start-up and growth

We have prepared a brief summary of national programmes available in North Kent offering potential sources of funding for businesses.  The information was correct as at 23 November 2016.  You can download a copy here.

The Kent & Medway Growth Hub carries information about grant and loan schemes available in Kent and Medway (not all of which necessarily apply to North Kent) - you can see the latest version by following this link.

Information about potential sources of funding for businesses can be found on other sites including Kent County Council and Medway Council.   Your local Economic Development team - see Business Support for contact details - may be able to provide further signposting.

Tiger

In 2013 the Partnership was successful in securing Regional Growth Funding for TIGER (Thames Gateway Innovation Growth and Enterprise), a £20 million programme offering interest-free loans, and very exceptionally grants or equity, to entrepreneurs to start or grow innovative businesses in Thames Gateway Kent (Dartford, Gravesham, Medway, Swale) or Thurrock.

With effect from 12pm on Friday 14th November 2014, the TIGER programme was closed to new applications.  Recycled TIGER loans are being used to fund a new business finance scheme from 2017 (see above).

Over 40 companies in North Kent have benefitted from TIGER loans, creating or safeguarding over 1,500 jobs - well above the original target for the programme.  Click here to see more details about some of the companies that have been helped to grow with TIGER support.
