Offshore Wind Business Survey

We are exploring ways that we can work effectively with Kent & Medway companies to help increase the number of contracts won locally from the rapidly expanding Offshore Wind Industry in the UK. To help us do this we have been carrying out a survey of businesses across the area.

Offshore Wind is a priority sector in Kent. It has already contributed and is anticipated to continue to contribute significantly towards the future growth of the local economy.  Major projects off the Kent coast include Kentish Flats, Thanet Offshore and London Array, currently the world’s largest.

The UK has the biggest offshore wind market in the world with 23 offshore wind farms now operational, 5 under construction, 9 with planning consent and 9 awaiting approval. Much of the supply chain for the development of windfarms already constructed as part of Rounds 1 and 2 of the UK Offshore Wind Programme was not based in the UK. However, with continued expansion and the development of Round 3 which consists of far larger projects further out to sea, there is a strong drive by the industry’s developers and contractors to use as much local content as possible. This opens up opportunities for UK companies across the supply chain spectrum.

We want to see Kent and Medway businesses that are already working in the sector, and those that would like to, winning more work to meet these growing demands. We would also like, where possible, to facilitate appropriate linkages between Kent based developers, Tier 1 and 2 contractors and operations and maintenance (O&M) operators with the local supply chain.

The survey has now closed, but we will post further information about the outcomes on this website.  If you'd like more information about opportunities in the offshore renewables industry, please click here.
