TGKP responds to Highways England’s consultation on the M2 Junction 5 Improvement Scheme

In September 2017 Highways England published a proposed scheme of improvements to M2 Junction 5, for public consultation.

We welcome the commitment from Highways England to improve M2 Junction 5 and the Stockbury Roundabout and we strongly agree with the urgent need for improvements. But in our view Highways England’s preferred scheme is unsatisfactory and seems primarily dictated by cost rather than by what will best deal with the problems associated with the existing junction. The scheme does not seem sufficiently future-proofed to support growth ambitions, nor to address current congestion issues. We are urging Highways England to re-think the scheme and develop a revised proposal that offers a free-flowing solution for northbound and southbound traffic on the A249 and designs out the shortcomings of the existing steep winding slip roads and confusing layout of the Stockbury Roundabout.
